New Year

So, New Years. Is everyone ok? I had a party, as some of you know, and while it might not go down as signif in anyone’s autobiography, it was really nice for me. It was a mix of old and new friends and I really couldn’t be more grateful to the folks who celebrated the beginning of 2008 with me.

So, I’m supposed to hear some v. important info from Sundance in the next week or so. Hope so, since I’m leaving in the wee hours of the morning of the 16th…

Oh! And also, it’s month of birthday!

But, more importantly, I suppose, let’s talk the new PR. Great challenge and great judging, IMO.

    Favorite moments:

    1. Although Christian drives me batty (and the previews for next week indicate he may REALLY get on my nerves), I thought he was hilarious last night. His totally droll “I was like, great, we get to make $#(! out of candy” was excellent.
    2. Tim Gunn likening Sweet P’s skirt to a maxi pad.
    3. Chris’ dress!
I know there were other laugh out loud moments, but they are escaping me right now.

Going to review the site now so that I can better comment since I’ve already forgotten most of the show. I had some vodka lemonades last night, thinking they might help my cold. Note to all: vodka lemonades do not improve cold symptoms.

First off the only thing that will improve your cold symptoms is the tried and true method I gave you. If you insist on adding vodka I recommend you put in the theraflu. Hmmph.

As for PR, I am finally caught up and thrilled to report it. I too was happy with the judging. It was nice to Victoria get called out a bit, as well. I’m a little tired of her to tell you the truth. I also did not enjoy Gillian’s suspenders.

I think Gillian’s kinda annoying, mainly because her laidbackness seems a little forced. But maybe I’m just jealous I’m not like that. I do think, though, that she’s gonna go really far in this competition. Suspenders or not.

The guy at the coop made me buy emergenC. Thoughts?

Kate, as the wife of a pharmacist, I’ve gotten many tips for getting over a cold, and it primarily involves vitamin C (I take 2 500mg tablets 3x per day when I have a cold) and nasal spray (which should be used only for 3 days). Also, sometimes a little benadryl will help at nighttime.

Vodka and OJ would be appropriate, no?

  6. 6 Kate and Gracie January 3, 2008 at 2:10 pm

Yes, vodka and oj would have been appropriate, but that seemed so heavy. Lemonade feels so light and crisp! So, vitamin c it is. I feel actually pretty good, but I have it on good authority I don’t sound so great.

This is apropos of nothing, but I really just hate Macy’s.

I see Kevin, Rami and Jillian in the final. Christian will f something up eventually, I think.

I’m pretty sure that there are almost no proven remedies for the cold, but my mom’s a big fan of vitamin c. many docs also think zinc really works (which is maybe in emergenC?). i’ve tried it and wasn’t that impressed. Most of it is symptom control, so vodka and lemonade was reasonable to try. i do like nyquil, but mostly b/c the benadryl makes me sleepy. and i drink water/tea instead of coffee.

I don’t know any pharmacists and I’m no doctor but I am Indian and that means I know a lot about medicine and engineering, so that’s lucky. I’ve never gotten as far with Emergen-C or Airborne as I have with Zicam but I genuinely enjoy the flavors and the fizz. Bubbles and orange just liven up a glass of water, don’t they?

I agree about Gillian and the forced coolness, but more than anything I just want her to move her facial muscles. People without reactions, a la Ryan Phillippe, are scary and abnormal- not that I’m judging. All that being said, I too think she will go far in the PR competition.

you know, maybe that’s what it is — the no movement in the face. i guess i just said “laidbackness” because some site i was on said she was really laid back and i have no ideas of my own.

Ok I’m not sure where to start with this thread.
I’ll start with the cold issues. I tried Zicam for the first time the week before Christmas (got a cold the day before flying back to Michigan) and while I do think it works, I then got some other cold AFTER I got home a week later. I felt like the cold really never left me, but at least I was not sniffling and miserable for the whole trip. Typically I don’t take anything though besides vit c, tea, and ricola throat lozenges. Those are the best things ever to soothe a sore throat in my opinion…only the original flavor though. I’m not a fan of the new flavors like honey or lemon.
PR—I was also not a fan of Jillian’s/Gillian’s suspenders. In fact..I actually don’t like many of her personal clothing choices. I did think the top of her outfit this week was pretty cool and had it sat up on the model a little bit more would have been even better. I thought Rami’s outfit was awesome though so I’m glad he won. Victoria kind of annoys me too. I don’t think I’d be friends with her.

Given that this is my first comment, I realize I’m coming late to the party so to speak. I too am a total advocate of EmergenC and of Zicam. Eric the photographer recently told me about the Zicam but I’ve been swigging the EC for years. I think it’s also good for hangovers, btw, and I’m with Sarayu on the bubbly goodness. Thankfully, I haven’t been sick yet this season, which I think is due to lots of handwashing, vitamins, meditation, and a healthy diet of unprocessed foods (mostly) and maybe luck.

Two more things. I do like the loop through scarf method and claim I invented it in law school, kind of like Al Gore invented the internet. Maybe it was the collective unconscious.

The NYE party was awesome and my favorite resolution quote of the night belonged to Heather, with her “eat more potato chips.” I’m also a fan of her “more” instead of “less” resolution philosophy.
