It’s almost time

This might be the image on my Sundance credential card — you know, the card that gets me into my lodging and all of the parties. We’ll see. The info I got this week was less than riveting … Guess we’ll have to wait until next Wednesday. I would be incredibly appreciative of anyone who would send me really supportive blog comments next week. I’m pretty damn nervous.

Ok, more importantly. … PR. Ok, I thought this was a really fun project idea, but I thought the judges were a little unrealistic about prom life. I mean, I think that some of the designers designing “older” for their clients was really on point. My memory is that kids often dressed way older for dances than their age. Sort of part of growing up and trying things out, no? Christian and his client were a brilliant pair. How funny was it that she chose him, yet he was petrified of what she wanted and never seemed to put together her choice of his portfolio with what was happening?

Also, how great was it that Victorya’s client said, “Well, I picked last,” in response to Tory’s questions of why she thought they’d work well together. Snap, Tory! [BTW, I’ve decided to call her Tory].

Also, I thought Rami’s dress was outstanding.

“Less than riveting”? Just picture Tim Gunn telling you to “Rally!”

I heart Chris. And Christian is starting to grow on me. I’ve forgiven him a little bit for being such a dork after I realized he’s only 21. Everyone’s a dork at 21. (Except honey, those pants last night..) What’s Tory’s excuse for being such a witch?

I would have worn a lot of those dresses to prom. I recall without fondness a used bright coral dress mess with BABY’S BREATH in my hair.

It is getting very close to week of birthday, and although I cannot be counted on to remember anything, I can remember to ask you to get the name of the court reporter for that thing tomorrow. Or straighten it out or whatever.
    Good Luck and Godspeed.

Ok I was pissed that they reamed on Rami like that! I was like–first of all–not everyone wants a stupid cutsey prom dress. That is the beauty of fashion…we get to choose what we like whether we’re 17 or 87. I did not think Rami’s dress made her look 35. She maybe looked 25 (in a tasteful way), but thats what you want when you’re 17! I didn’t think his response was all that good (I had a much better one scripted out for him). I cannot believe that Victoria won. I mean–I didn’t hate her dress but I liked many other dresses (even besides Rami’s) more than hers (like Sweet P’s, Chris’).
The red dress did make that girl look like a hooker though. I was glad christian didn’t get booted. He deserves to stay on longer.

I didn’t watch PR because I was watching the Nanny Diaries, which I would say was okay. They changed a lot from the book (which you just shouldn’t do with fine literature), including the ending.

that picture for sundance credentials, hmmm. it does seem rather indie.

Sundance–Kate you’re going to be absolutely great at Sundance!
Plus the picture of you is adorable. It makes me miss you though since I haven’t seen you in forever!

The Nanny Diaries! My mom got me a subscription to Netflix for six months because a) she feels bad for me, b) she works at this job sometimes and just plays on the internet and likes to order things and c) she’s nice. But I felt really bad about it because I like to shop at my local video store and so there was a lot of guilt involved with this subscription but my mama said, “You can go back to Video Station when it’s nice out.” So, I resigned myself to selling out and I absolutely LOVE it. So fun to have movies to come home to. I’ve been really into documentaries about weird crimes I’ve never heard about. Macabre, I know. So the Nanny Diaries would balance that out nicely, I think. Unless there’s something I don’t know about it…

Anyway, Rose, I couldn’t agree more! Chris’ dress was really outstanding, though I can’t imagine picking that color. It looked gorgeous, though. Victoria’s dress was cute, but I thought pretty much everyone did a great job — with the exception of that terrible hem. Why on earth would he do that? It made no sense to me. Ugh. Poor thing. I hope that girl didn’t have to wear that dress to her prom. I thought Kit’s dress was pretty creative.

Sundance! OMG. So scary. I leave on Wednesday. Got “the last email” from them yesterday. I really crave more information from them and they’re reticent to give me any. For example, I don’t find out till I check in on Wed afternoon where I’m staying, who I’m staying with, etc. Scary! I am going into this prepared for a miniAmeriCorps with way better perks.

Yes, Netflix is the greatest thing that’s happened to me in a long time. Tonight I am either watching The Simpson’s (!) or La Vie en Rose. Love it.

I have to agree with everyone on almost everything regarding PR. Loved Rami’s dress (maybe it could have been a little brighter, though?) and Sweet P’s. Thought Victorya’s was cute, and am not as annoyed by Christian as I used to be. But I hated his dress, sorry to say. Blech. And I was very, very sad to see Kevin go and Crybaby Ricky stay. Kevin is super talented and I had very high hopes for him. Ah well.

And Sundance. Ahhhh! So excited for you. I can’t believe they haven’t told you who you’re staying with or anything. Wouldn’t it be just nuts if you showed up and it was Kate, your roommate from Americorps? Ha! That would be rich. But seriously, you are going to razzle dazzle ’em, I just know it. Just make sure you check in with all of us and let us know what celeb is your new best friend of the day. ๐Ÿ™‚

And, I do think you look adorable in that picture, but it brings back mixed memories, as that night was both fun and sad.

you are going to be awesome at sundance. keep us informed!

Ok, I know this is annoying that I keep switching blogs, but I’m having trouble committing. I just want it to look a certain way and there are pluses and minuses to both blog blog blogs (I have no idea what they’re called — blogengines? blogines?). Anyway, such is life, I suppose. Pluses and minuses. So, thoughts on this new layout?

  10. 10 Sarayu January 12, 2008 at 11:38 am

I love this picture of you so very much.

Now, re: PR, Kristin, I’m glad to hear you’re sad to see Kevin go. I was as well. I really feel he was underrated on the show. I also think he seems grounded and nice and that he’ll continue on to do much more.

I sort of felt bad for Christian and I sort of didn’t. Does anyone remember when he was almost kicked off before and was allowed to stay? If one time doesn’t humble a boy, the second time certainly won’t either. I do think he’s incredibly talented but I’m sure it won’t be long before he’s tooting his own horn again and I will once again be irritated. I’m confident they will keep him on as long as possible, though, because he keeps the drama around. Like all reality tv, there is certainly some manipulation behind those curtains.

As for the pretty dresses, loved Sweet P, Chris and I thought Gillian’s was nice, as always. I agree that the judges were wrong about Rami’s dress. It was gorgeous and they were just looking for something to pick on. I just hope that 17 year-old is not so self conscious that she listens to the dumb, mean judges. She should wear it.

    Prom. Ugh.

  11. 11 Sarayu January 12, 2008 at 3:00 pm

p.s. Also totally done with “Crybaby Ricky.” Seriously- EVERY episode with tears?

  12. 12 Kristin January 12, 2008 at 4:09 pm

I know!! Wait – I’m still not sure after six or so crying jags: What exactly could winning PR do for your career Ricky? Ugh. Shut it.

  13. 13 Sarah January 12, 2008 at 5:40 pm

Ran into PR’s Chris the other day on my way to The Bean. I got very flustered. I meant to tell him I loved his prom dress.

Liked Rami’s, but it was more sophisticated than I think the girl could pull off. More red carpet then prom.

Victorya’s dress was predictable. I can get that at Target by Isaac Mizrahi.

And would somebody get Ricky a tissue.

  14. 14 kateandgracie January 12, 2008 at 6:48 pm

I do agree that Rami’s was pretty sophisticated, but I thought it was damn beautiful and that should be worth something — like when they were super easy on Jillian even though her red dress barely incorporated anything from that woman’s fave outfit. I think the judges are sometimes guilty of creating dumb drama.

    Also, go Packers!!

  15. 15 kateandgracie January 12, 2008 at 6:49 pm

Also, Feehead, the main pic is of my mom’s dog. Gracie’s pic wouldn’t take up the whole spot so I’ll have to find one of her or take one of her that does…Until then, it’s Clancy, who is also a Puppy.

  16. 16 Kristin January 13, 2008 at 12:06 am

Clancy – yes. Makes sense now. For a sec I thought – is that Casey? But knew it wasn’t. Ah – too many cute puppies. ๐Ÿ™‚

  17. 17 kateandgracie January 13, 2008 at 10:40 am

Oh, Casey. What a pup. She was really a silly puppy. Go Packers!

Rose forbidden to read this: I will not put up with hate waves coming at me over the internet.

Colds: 1. Zicam works absolutely but has to be the icky goop you stuff up your nose; powders, tablets n.g. 2. G.S. carts host more bad bugs than restroom fixtures: if you simply must grocery shop, a. grab two plastic bags on your way into store, wrap one around cart handle, put other in fold-out seat before you plop your purse or bag in it (don’t you? think about what they’re FOR, i.e. what bottoms have been plopped there), and b. always have a travel-size thing of hand-sanitizer with you and USE IT after you get through checkout.

Houseplants: First rule of my house, firmly conveyed to any incoming plant, “If you can’t survive neglect you will die.” Lost a few; 8 survivors, one 30 years old (asparagus fern). Second rule: no ivy – positively breeds pestiferous insects that attack everything else.

Movies: “Before the Devil…” – FSK and EH both awesome; “Atonement” – perfect “translation” of book to screen; some finding this tedious but not I; then again Ian McEwan is a favorite of mine and “Atonement” a grand book.

Sundance: Friends who’ve been have had nothing but good to report. You’ll love it, I bet.

  19. 19 Andrea January 14, 2008 at 5:52 pm

You’ll be very jealous to know that Scott passed by Tim Gunn on our block the other day. Apparently, he did not tell him to “make it work” – bet he gets that a lot, huh. I want to hear more about what you are going to be doing at Sundance!

  20. 20 kateandgracie January 15, 2008 at 10:09 am

First, let me say that I watched the most recent PR again (well, half of it) and I now see how Rami’s dress didn’t really do well as a prom dress. I still think it was really nice, though. And I think Sweet Pea should have won.

Second, Sundance! I’ll be there in about 24 hours. So nuts. The latest news is that I’ll be working at the Egyptian theater. It’s an older theater showing mostly foreign films (I think) and it’s right downtown. What I’ll be doing and when I’ll be doing it, I don’t know. Supposedly, though, all will be revealed tomorrow.

  21. 21 rose January 16, 2008 at 1:02 pm

    I’m confused by this statement.

Rose forbidden to read this: I will not put up with hate waves coming at me over the internet.

  22. 22 kateandgracie January 16, 2008 at 7:19 pm

I don’t know what that means, either. The post is from my aunt Missy. Perhaps she’ll explain.

Until then, though, I. Have. So. Much. To. Say.
