Comments have been low lately, and it’s made me sad. I appreciate those who comment because it’s SO nice to hear from you. I thank you times a billion. And those of you who don’t, I really ask for your voice on here. It makes me feel connected.

Did you carve that? It’s pretty cool, and I can’t quite imagine what sort of tool allows that kind of carving. Not the little serrated knives in the kits!

  3. 3 kateandgracie October 30, 2008 at 10:11 am

Yeah, I did, and I did use the knives in the kit. It was kind of a painful process. I couldn’t really trace it the way they wanted, so it was half-traced, half-freehand looking at it. My hand cramps up thinking about it.

I’ve never actually made a pumpkin like that. You know, with a pattern and everything. Just the traditional jack o’. I’m very impressed!

Ok, I saw McCain speaking this morning and he again made that dumb line about how he won’t spend money looking into the DNA work of moose in the west — he doesn’t know if that’s a criminal or a paternal thing (ha ha) — but he’ll end that spending. Um, shut up. Just shut up. I can forgive a dumb sound byte the first time. But I can’t forgive it when it’s intentionally and repeatedly thrown around. So dumb.

Two things: Kent Williams, Isthmus’ movie critic, spelled Colin Farrell, Colin Ferrell. This annoyed me. Two, he says the only Kevin Smith movie he ever really liked was Jersey Girl — admitting that everyone else hated it. I feel the same way! I still think that was a pretty fun, if innocuous and slightly cheesy, movie. And I just am not so into gross-out, bawdy humor. I’m just not.

  7. 7 Kristin October 30, 2008 at 2:07 pm

I never saw Jersey Girl, but it looks like I should. I do like that Chasing Amy movie. As annoying as Joey Lauren Adams is, I like it.

Re Ferrell/Farrell. I saw some article the other day where they referred to Will Ferrell as Farrell. Get this right people!

  8. 8 Heather October 30, 2008 at 2:43 pm

Your pumpkin looks awesome! That is some super intricate carving.

I love jersey girl. You know what in movies makes me cry? not old people, but ben affleck. i cry in good will hunting when he goes up to the door and matt damon’s gone and he smiles, and i also cry in jersey girl when he tells gertie that she ruined his life..

does kevin smith have another movie out?

sorry i’ve missed a few posts.

Finally, Heather. Thank you. Yeah, he has the Zach and Miri porno movie. I really don’t think it looks funny — not from the trailer anyway.

  10. 10 Heather October 30, 2008 at 3:19 pm

I did see catch and release again the other day and i like him in that. not that he has much of a role, and he didn’t write/direct it. but, that porno movie does not look good. i like seth rogen and all of the judd apatow people, but i feel like they need to be reeled in a little. like, maybe 1 movie every two years, not every 6 months.

  11. 11 kateandgracie October 30, 2008 at 3:28 pm

Agreed. I feel like they probably think they need to strike while the iron is hot and while I appreciate that notion, it’s certainly not a recipe for staying power.

I forgot he was in Catch and Release. That was a sweet movie.

Also, is anyone else enjoying that new Macy’s commercial with all the clips from old movies and recent tv where everyone mentions Macy’s? I think it’s a great ad. Too bad the store blows so much. Marshall Fields for Secretary of the Interior!

  13. 13 Kristin October 31, 2008 at 9:23 am

So I just read this great review of Zack and Miri make a Porno and now I really want to see it! I don’t know why I always forget that a love story is somehow worked into these things, no matter how silly. And I just have this feeling I’ll like this one.

Not that I’m going to see it in the theater, but it’s going right on my Netflix.

Well, you can tell us all how it is.

My pumpkin is caving in. And I mean that literally, not — you know — the pumpkin.

Puppy is a rooster for Halloween and she is not really enjoying it.

    I’m sleepy.

  15. 15 G October 31, 2008 at 10:35 am

I heart puppy and the pumpkin

  16. 16 kateandgracie October 31, 2008 at 11:02 am

Sarayu’s coming into town tonight, peeps. Get ready.

  17. 17 Sara H October 31, 2008 at 11:56 am

    Are you going to Freakfest??

    Are you watching polls Tuesday?

  18. 18 kateandgracie October 31, 2008 at 12:00 pm

No to Freakfest. But I did see someone dressed as a banana this morning. You?

I’m having some peeps over for election coverage — you & Russ are welcome to come, of course. I wonder if it’ll be a late night.

Also, I just came back from lunch at the New Argus where I was treated to the political thoughts of a 40-something woman seated nearby. She opined that she hated Obama because of his “Robin Hood” ideas. Since when did it become something awful to be successful, she asked. She said she had voted Republican in every election since she was 18. She went on to say — quite emphatically I may add — that Sarah Palin scares the “shit” out of her. Her words.

Also, does anyone else feel like the Capitol always smells like Rice Krispie treats?

And finally, why is it summer out?

  20. 20 Sara H October 31, 2008 at 2:53 pm

I have not seen anyone dressed as a banana today. 🙂 No Freakfest for me – did that once in law school, and once was enough.

Thanks for the election party invite, but we’ll have Sean and it’s a school night, so we’ll be partying at home (or cringing, or pulling hair, or I’m not sure what – I’m just feeling resigned one way or the other – my big excitement will be to see what happens in the state assembly).

Impressed with the New Argus – just went for the first time last Friday.

There are people waterskiiing on the lake. Waterskiing!

  21. 21 kateandgracie November 3, 2008 at 10:49 am

    Waterskiing? That’s NUTS.

Isn’t the New Argus good? Such solid food. I’m v. impressed.

That’s what I figured for the election party — those darn kids just get in the way of me having peeps over. It seems there’s a window — when they’re baby babies they’re super mobile because they can just sleep and not get into trouble. But then from about one to when they’re teenagers, plans are harder to make.

  22. 22 Sara H November 3, 2008 at 2:15 pm

Wow, my Monday night football guys better have a good night – you’ve got quite the lead!

  23. 23 kateandgracie November 3, 2008 at 2:42 pm

Hee hee! I noticed that as well. The tide may have turned for me! At least as of late. Eli has really been coming through for me. I’m jealous you have Aaron, though.
