Here’s something that bugs me, since you asked: people talking to me first thing in the morning at work.  Or at home, really, but that’s easier to avoid.  When I get to work, I want to turn on my computer, read my email, have a cup of coffee, balance my checkbook and do some other inane things.  And I want to do them quietly, alone and in peace.  But sometimes people seem to think that I might want them to come into my office and drone on and on about how hard their life is and how having kids is the most difficult thing in the universe and how they have too much work to do.  Let me assure you: this is not the case.  I can tolerate these discussions (not that they are really discussions — they’re much more like monologues) much better later in the day, after I’ve had some alone time.  So, please, just give me half an hour alone and then we can talk for an hour about you don’t have enough time to get it all done.

Oh god, that would make me nuts. As I’m not a morning person, first thing in the a.m. communicating is not an option. I hope I wasn’t guilty of doing that to you this morning. If so, I apologize. I’ll be sure to check my clock before ringing you in the future.

I think you’re biggest problem is people like talking to you. Could you try to be less likable?

Very funny. And no, of course it was not you. And really it’s just a very particular person who wants to complain and complain and complain. And I’m just not up for it. I have complaining of my own to do!

Hahaha- I know EXACTLY what you mean and I have a zero tolerance policy! I believe you’ve seen me cut a few friends for that same reason. Reciprocity and common courtesy are required. When you’re cornered like that in your office, well, that’s just a nightmare.

Totally get it. For me, it’s the ride to work. Please, please, do not interrupt me with a phone call while I’m listening to tunes and trying to gear up for the day. Peeps need some time to prep! BTW, that colleague sounds a bit ick.

Boy do I feel your pain. I used to get to work at 7:00 a.m. just to make re-entry a little less painful. And whenever they could, my principals would give me first hour prep. I think they knew they were wasting money when they gave me a first hour class.
