More miscellany

Aaron and I saw The Town yesterday.  I liked it; Aaron was not overly impressed; and Sarayu should think twice before she sees it as there’s a lot o’ violence.  I thought it was a pretty fun nail-biter, though the ending was a little…well, soft.  Ben Affleck has really turned out to be quite a good director, in my — sniff sniff — insignificant opinion.

There’s no one I really like on Project Runway this season.  At least not yet.  I don’t like Gretchen or Ivy, obviously.  I like Michael somewhat, but I can’t tell if it’s only because everyone is so mean to him.  But there’s no Andrae or Chloe or Leanne or Daniel(s).  There’s no certainly no Santino!  And although I don’t like Gretchen and Ivy, I can’t even get that excited about not liking them, which could happen from time to time with folks like Kenley or, you know, Santino.  We’ll see.

Also, a word on sighing.  Yes, sighing.  I looooooooooooooove the sound of Gracie’s sigh.  It’s just so adorable.  And so confusing to me.  Why does she sigh?  Ben once told me that she sighs for the same reason I sigh.  Hmm.  Is that true?  Why do I sigh?  Maybe I’m not aware of how often I sigh.  I think of sighing as a sign of exasperation or forlornment or resignation or fatigue or sometimes, contentment.  It also seems like something one usually does on purpose.  But Gracie’s sigh doesn’t seem deliberate.  It just seems…calm.  Like she’s really at peace.  Like she can really settle down and is letting it all go.  Like she’s telling herself, “Look, the mail already came so you are done with the barking job of the day, your people are both home and safe, the dog next door is inside his house and not in your backyard.  You can now rest.  Good job.”  So cute!  My favorite sound.

Mondo?? His Jackie O. outfit last week was to. die. for. Methinks.

Oh yes, yes. You are correct. And does this mean you’re watching Rachel Zoe?

  3. 3 Kristin September 23, 2010 at 3:05 pm

Haha. No. That’s just the way I talk. I think she stole it from me. 🙂

Clancy sighs too but not that often. I love it and want him to do it more often but haven’t figured out a way to teach him to do it on command! I believe his sigh says “boy, my life is just soooooo good”! And it “feels so good to feel safe”.

Ok, I’m really glad you posted about The Town. I really want to see it, but I’m scared. How much violence. Torture scenes? Those are the one I really can’t take.

I’m still out of the PR loop so no comment there.

I love when Gracie sighs too. Puppy sighs are just too cute. What are they thinking about that makes them sigh. We’ve all been there Grace, we’ve all been there.

Yeah, I know it’s torture scenes that bug you…There’s not really torture in the sense I think of it — you know, tell me this or I’ll chop your fingers off. There’s a lot of gun violence, which I obviously think you could handle. But there are two pretty gruesome scenes (both short) in which peeps get beaten up. Those are the parts that I think would really bother you. But they are short, so you could close your eyes and not miss anything important.

As for PR, I really am just still not excited. Gretchen is SO annoying and not in a fun way. Though I did like her dress this week. Argh. I guess I like April, but not necessarily her designs.

Anyway, I really think my favorite show may be Watch What Happens. It’s soooooooooooo funny. And next week Tina Fey is on!

So far behind on PR, but I did catch last night’s runway show. I loved all of the top 3, especially that stripey dress (although the black fabric did look cheap – those judges, they really have a knack for pointing stuff out that I never would have noticed but then I can’t believe I didn’t notice it). But I agree about Gretchen – she’s mean. At least Christian Siriano was annoying in an oh-no-you-didn’t! way. I miss him, which I never thought I’d say.

I hate face-punching scenes. It was one of my least favorite things about the last seasons of Lost. Someone was getting beat up all the time, and it usually involved mouth bleeding, which I cannot stand. The Town looks good, but I guess I’ve been warned. 🙂 Will see Wall Street instead.

BTW – WTF Casey Affleck? I can’t decide what I think about all of this.

OMG, I know! I watched the Joaquin interview on David Letterman twice because I can’t figure this all out. Or are you talking about the sexual harassment claims? Either way, it’s all a big mystery to me and I have no idea what to think. I do know, though, that I pretty much have no interest in seeing I’m Still Here.

I do want to see Wall Street, too. I really don’t like, though, when movie titles have colons in them. Wall Street: Money Doesn’t Sleep. Or whatever it is. Why not just call it Wall Street 2? I don’t like the colon. There, I said it. I’m on record.

Yeah. While I can’t say I am excited about the PR season overall, I just absolutely freakin’ LOVE Mondo. He makes me so happy and is making the season work for me. 😉

I would like to see The Town and Wall Street Part Deux, but what I want to see most of all is Never Let Me Go. Has anyone read the book? It was unbelievable, just an amazing book. I get emotional each time I see a trailer for the movie.

Kate – have you been watching Flipping Out? It’s been really good the past couple of weeks.

  10. 10 kateandgracie September 24, 2010 at 1:45 pm

Yes to Flipping Out. He bought Zoila a car! Is she not the best ever?

Never heard of Never Let Me Go. Must research.

I wish I could muster up some of your enthusiasm for Mondo. I mean, I like his stuff, but I just am not in love with him. Must. Try. Harder.

  11. 11 Kristin September 24, 2010 at 2:18 pm

Books is by the author of Remains of the Day. Must read.

  12. 12 Sara H September 24, 2010 at 3:53 pm

I think the sexual harassment claims are making it difficult for me to swallow all of this woe-is-me crud that Casey is going on and on about…. how he totally put his career on the line, how he practically financially destroyed himself, yadda yadda. Dude – weird faux movie, questionable personable behavior and apparent trickery of general public leads to dislike and might be why you’re not working much.

  13. 13 Sara H September 24, 2010 at 3:54 pm

Personal behavior – not personable. Sheesh. I blame Friday afternoon.

  14. 14 kateandgracie September 25, 2010 at 5:21 pm

Excellent points. True, true. I must investigate this further. I just think the movie was a dumb, bad idea. Maybe if it had lasted 6 months or something…but 2 years? And I still don’t understand the point. When asked, Joaquin seems to say, “We wanted to explore celebrity.” I don’t understand that. It seems to be a film about a guy who pretends to self-destruct and, because he’s a celebrity, people are interested in it. I don’t really get how that explores the notion of celebrity.

i like mondo, and i actually like april, too, even though nothing much has happened with her. i think i like her monotone voice, which i take as no-nonsense.

we sigh to open up our lungs. the lung is made up of little sacs called alveoli that can collapse down on themselves and we sigh to keep them open. it’s interesting that we also sigh out of exasperation or sadness or other emotions, and not sure how the two are linked, but this is what i know about sighing.

i didn’t know anything about this casey affleck scandal and now i’m a little bummer because i like(d) him.

You’re saying Gracie isn’t content? Ouch.
