Ode to our UPS delivery driver

I love talking politics with our ups delivery driver. He’s just the bees’ knees.

I love talking with him! I especially loved it during the pandemic because he was often the only non-family voice I heard during the day.

I love that when I say “thank you“ to him, and he’s already crossed the street, he’ll often cross back to chat with me, in the snow, about the Wisconsin Supreme Court or the governor’s race or MGT, or whatever else is going on politically.

I love hearing him share with me his wife’s thoughts while I offer him Aaron’s.

I love hearing him give me the scuttle on the other delivery guy, who is less-than-friendly (and apparently a Trump-er).

I love this small piece of consistency in an otherwise inconsistent (albeit routine) world. It’s comforting.

Where. Does. The. Time. Go. Go Brewers!

Molly and I went to Milwaukee for the third and part of the fourth of July. She had her first experience with sparklers and fireworks. She loved both.

Against my better judgment, and all odds, I let Mollybear stay up for the amazing fireworks on the Milwaukee lakefront on Friday. I actually can’t believe she made it up that late. A constellation of factors worked in her favor, namely a late afternoon nap. But Aaron and I certainly paid the price over the following days with a very cranky tot. Oh well. She loved the fireworks and, really, the whole day. As she said, “Best day ever!”

Still so proud

Thanks for maybe the best sports ride ever, Badgers. You made us laugh and cheer and believe during a gloomy political climate and only slightly less gloomy weather. I’m forever grateful.

The rich versus the rest of us

I just watched the documentary Park Avenue: Money, Power & the American Dream and I highly recommended it. It’s not really anything you didn’t know, but it’s a succinct and accurate and depressing and clear portrait of the incredibly scary and sad current state of the vast income inequality in this country. The movie really brought it all home – and socked it to me emotionally – when it concluded the union-busting we all know so well is at the heart of a lot of this disparity. I took a photo of the final frame for you. I’m sure you’ll find it shocking.
